Jennifer S.

Fort Polk, LA
RN; Intensive Care

Often times I become a counselor to the family because the patients in the ICU have very serious illnesses. There are so many different people and cultures I must interact with, I always pull from the basics I learned back in nursing school about working with anyone. People will always remember a nurse who helped them through a difficult time. I recently added to my responsibilities by becoming the chief of education and training at my hospital. In this new position, I am responsible for the annual training and continuing education requirements of all personnel as well as running student programs and shadow days. It’s very administrative, but the rewards are still there. I can make a difference in the bigger health care picture by helping with retention for the entire hospital. As a nurse I’m challenged and must use my critical thinking skills. I enjoy being an Army nurse and I can’t imagine doing anything else.
